Milan build a three-goal lead

AC Milan beat Atalanta 3-2 at San Siro in the seventh round of Serie A, after moving 3-0 ahead by 57'. Goncalo Ramos opened the scoring from the penalty spot at 24', after referee Chiffi was sent to the monitor by VAR to review a handball by Relja Obric. Adrien Rabiot doubled the lead at 43', and Mario Gila headed in a third goal from a corner at 57', although Polsat Sport gives the time as 58'. A 13' goal by Christian Pulisic was disallowed because Ramos was judged offside in the build-up. Milan were the better side for most of the match, although Atalanta had early chances through Samardzic and Krstovic.

VAR calls and a missed penalty

The VAR intervened again at 56' to award a second penalty, this time for a clear handball by Atalanta defender Thomas Kristensen. Ramos took the kick, but Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi saved it. Ramos had the chance to score twice from the spot and did not take it. The corner that followed was taken short by Luka Modric, and Gila's header came from a pass by Rabiot. Yellow cards went to Rabiot for Milan and to Ederson and Relja Obric for Atalanta.

Table impact and Amorim's view

Milan moved up to fourth with 15 points from seven matches, four behind leaders Inter. Milan are one of four Serie A sides still unbeaten this season, alongside Inter, Roma and Lazio. Atalanta have 9 points and sit tenth in the table. Speaking to Sky Sport after the game, Ruben Amorim said that the squad must be rotated.

It is impossible to play always with the same players, we have to rotate.

— Ruben Amorim

Amorim also singled out Loftus-Cheek for showing much more aggression.
