Ban stays in force at three ports

Strong winds keep the departure ban in force at Piraeus, Rafina and Lavrio on Wednesday, 14 October. Reports say gusts reach 9 on the Beaufort scale in many sea areas. The Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY) put the strongest winds at 9 Beaufort locally and briefly 10. Earlier reports said the ban applied until 3 pm that afternoon.

Evening sailings to Crete cancelled

The Hellenic Coast Guard said no 21:00 sailings from Piraeus to Crete would run on Wednesday evening because of adverse weather. The cancelled services were conventional passenger and vehicle ferries. Passengers were asked to contact local port offices, shipping companies and travel agencies before leaving, so they could learn of possible cancellations, delays or timetable changes.

Ferry disruption timeline, 14 October 2026
  1. Departure ban at Piraeus and Lavrio due to remain in force until 3 pm
  2. Weather at Rafina to be reassessed before later sailings are decided
  3. Piraeus to Crete evening ferry departure cancelled

Other routes disrupted

In the Argosaronic Gulf only some conventional ferries were sailing, and no hydrofoil services ran. The Paloukia Salamina to Kamatero Piraeus link was suspended. Three morning trips from Rafina ran as normal, and conditions there were to be reassessed after 4 pm before later sailings were decided. Services on the Prinos to Kavala, Agia Marina to Nea Styra and Arkitsa to Aidipsos lines were also not operating.

What comes next

The Coast Guard said the resumption of sailings will depend on how the weather develops and on new decisions from the competent port authorities. No new end time for the ban appears in the reports. Passengers planning trips were advised to confirm with port offices or operators before travelling.
