Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul ordered the immediate transfer of Ban Sang district chief Setthawut Wonglerwut on 8 October 2026 after Prachin Buri Governor Veerapun Dee-on submitted a formal reassignment request. The Department of Provincial Administration reported that Setthawut failed to cooperate or make adequate efforts to assist flood victims. He will remain assigned to the Institute of Administration Development until 5 November 2026 pending an investigation. Several Ban Sang residents disputed the basis for the move, maintaining that the official had visited inundated areas and aided locals from the onset of the disaster.

Flooding across Prachin Buri led authorities to declare disaster areas across all seven districts, with 19 fatalities and more than 60,000 families affected. Thailand also activated its national disaster insurance mechanism to support flood recovery. The province of Lamphun became one of the earliest to draw on the program following 5 October 2026 flash floods that affected 225 families. Financial relief disbursements are underway, and officials directed eligible residents to connect their bank accounts to PromptPay to prevent payment delays.
