Twenty years at Report end

Sigfrido Ranucci has left the Report editorial office at Rai in Rome, ending a run of about twenty years and roughly 500 episodes of the Rai3 investigative programme. On 13 October 2026 he posted a video on his social media profiles showing him packing boxes, with his face kept out of frame. The accompanying post opens with the words 'Finisce una storia durata vent'anni', which he says closes a story that lasted twenty years. He wrote that he had hoped to say goodbye from the Report studio, but was doing so from his social profiles instead.

Removal and handover

According to Open, Rai removed Ranucci from hosting Report in August 2026, after a case over his relations with Valter Lavitola came to light. The Rome Labour Court has since confirmed that decision by rejecting his urgent request for reinstatement, and Ranucci has said he accepts the judges' ruling. Fanpage reports that from Friday, 9 October the handover of the programme became substantially official. From 8 November the Rai3 investigative show will be led by Claudia Di Pasquale and Daniele Piervincenzi. Open reports that Ranucci had to choose one of three options offered by Rai by the end of 13 October, and his post gives no firm answer on his future, only a vague promise to return 'sooner or later'.

The farewell post

Ranucci wrote that he had expected an ending of this kind and had imagined many scenarios, but never thought it would come in such monstrous ways. He then turned to his record and his principles in a passage that frames his departure as a matter of integrity.

Even so, I regret nothing I have done. I would do it all again, because I chose to defend principles and chose not to bend my back before anyone, not even before my own fears or uncertainties.

— Sigfrido Ranucci

He added that choosing sometimes means surprising others and becoming a Maremma sheepdog that shows the way to the rest. He closed the list of his commitments with his love for free information, for the spirit of public service and for Rai.

The funeral anecdote and the promise

Ranucci set the video to 'L-O-V-E' by Nat King Cole and used a French news story to explain the choice. He recounted the funeral of a Spanish teacher in Saint-Jean-de-Luz who was killed by a 16-year-old, where her partner danced alone in front of the coffin to the song that was their own. Everyone present then began to dance, turning grief into a shared moment. Ranucci tied that image to his own future with a promise to see viewers again.

Transforming pain into resilience is what I will do, with the promise of seeing you again sooner or later.

— Sigfrido Ranucci

The post ends with thanks to viewers for the passion and dedication with which they followed the programme over the years.
