Partido Popular and Vox have signed a motion of censure against Algeciras mayor José Ignacio Landaluce, with Jacinto Muñoz as their candidate. PP provincial leader Bruno García said on Wednesday, 14 October 2026, that the 12 PP councillors who left the local government on Tuesday, 13 October, signed the motion together with the Vox councillors. The motion is due to be registered on Wednesday afternoon. García said the party offered Landaluce the option to resign and that he chose not to.

Landaluce denies the allegations. In an interview with Onda Cero, he said he had received no court document about the complaints.

He acknowledged that the situation had no way back, but said he would keep working until the motion is filed, out of respect for the residents who elected him. Three councillors remain in his government: Yessica Rodríguez as first deputy mayor, Patricia Bueno as second and Vicente Palomares as third, according to decrees he signed at midday on Wednesday. Earlier on Wednesday, Andalusian PP leader Juanma Moreno said the motion would be presented immediately if Landaluce did not resign. Socialist leaders in Cádiz accused the PP of choosing Vox to sign the motion.
