Preorders open and stock runs out

Apple opened preorders for the iPhone Duo on Friday, 16 October, at 14:00 in Italy and Poland, which The Verge put at 8am Eastern time. Apple had taken its online store offline beforehand to prepare its systems for the rush, and ANSA noted that stock was limited. The foldable has a 5.4-inch outer display for everyday use, a 7.6-inch inner screen and an A20 Pro chip. Spider's Web reported that the first batch sold out by 14:15, when the wait had grown to seven to eight weeks, and that by about 14:30 the estimate had passed three months. Bloomberg reported that Apple's retail stores also ran out of launch-day stock almost as soon as preorders began, and Apple did not say how many units it had to sell.

Delivery dates move into 2027

Shipping estimates for every colour and storage option moved into January within minutes of preorders opening. Spider's Web recorded a delivery date of 22 January 2027 on Apple's Polish store, and it said Germany, France and the United Kingdom showed the same date. MacRumors saw 25 January for all configurations on the US store, while The Verge saw late January dates across the board. Bloomberg reported that some buyers said on social media their dates still slipped, even after they had chosen a model in advance as Apple suggested. The phone goes on sale on 23 October, and The Verge noted that Apple typically reserves some units for walk-in customers, so an in-store purchase could arrive sooner than an online order. MacRumors said shoppers could check for Apple Store pickup slots from Saturday, 24 October.

Prices, repairs and AppleCare+

The iPhone Duo costs 2,369 euro in Italy for the 256GB model and starts at $1,999 in the United States, where the 2TB version costs $3,199. In Poland, Spider's Web listed 10,000 zł for 256GB, 13,000 zł for 1TB and 16,000 zł for 2TB, calling it the most expensive iPhone to date.

Apple's own repair figures, as ANSA reported them, put an inner-screen repair at 1,149 euro, close to half the price of the whole phone. An outer-screen repair costs 489 euro, rising to 629 euro if the back glass breaks too, and the most serious total-damage case can reach 1,719 euro. A screen protector alone costs 55 euro. AppleCare+ costs 359 euro for two years or 17.99 euro a month, rising to 429 euro with theft cover, and it cuts a screen repair to a flat 29 euro deductible.

Resale and market context

An eBay listing for a 2TB Night Sky model, marked as sold, reached as much as $5,000, against Apple's $3,199 price, as Vadim Yuryev of the Max Tech YouTube channel spotted. Apple shares rose 1.8% before US markets opened on Friday. Counterpoint Research expects Apple to sell about 6 million iPhone Duos this year, and foldables have so far been a niche part of the smartphone market. Spider's Web reported that Apple plans about 10 million units worldwide, compared with 72 million for the iPhone 18 Pro (Max). John Ternus has been Apple's chief executive since 1 September, and The Next Web reported that he has been cutting managers to ship products faster, with the Duo among the first big launches under him.
