The announcement

Jorge Javier Vázquez announced the return on Tuesday, 13 October, during the Supervivientes All Stars gala on Telecinco. He asked four former housemates to join him at the centre of the set: Rosario Mohedano, Isa Pantoja, Tony Spina and Dámaso Angulo. El País and El Confidencial name the first as Chayo Mohedano, while El Periódico and eldiario.es use Rosario. Vázquez then recalled a storyline for each guest, including the romance that began inside the house between Isa Pantoja and Asraf Beno, now her husband. He told the group they all had something in common before making the announcement.

Big Brother is back, GH VIP is back. Coming very soon to Telecinco.

The channel has not confirmed that Vázquez will host the new edition, and no start date has been set.

What is known so far

The channel has kept the official list of housemates under wraps. Social media users have floated names such as Belén Esteban, Beatriz Trapote, Cristina Porta and Juls Janeiro, but these remain speculation. The promotional video replaced the show's eye logo with an intense red version, which leaves open what is new. All signs point to the new house in Tres Cantos, Madrid, where the set was built after the show left Guadalix de la Sierra. EL PAÍS reports that Zeppelin, the production company, moved the show about a year earlier and built the house from scratch. The house is larger than the previous one, with more room for tests, daily life and live dynamics.

Background to the last edition

GH VIP started on Telecinco in 2004, and Marlene Mourreau won the first edition while Ivonne Armant won the second, according to El Periódico. The format returned in 2015, when Belén Esteban won with 67.9% of the votes. Adara Molinero won the seventh edition in 2019. The eighth edition aired from September to December 2023, and its final on 21 December 2023 saw Naomi Asensi beat Luitingo. Asensi entered as a reserve housemate, and sources differ on her stay: La Razón says she spent 67 of the 98 days in the house, while El Confidencial puts it at 99 days. Marta Flich later took over presenting the show from Vázquez, El Confidencial reports. Since then Telecinco has kept the brand alive through GH Dúo, a celebrity pairs version.

What happens next

La Razón expects the ninth edition to start in November, once Supervivientes All Stars ends. El Confidencial takes a more cautious view, noting that Mediaset has no free slot for GH VIP while Supervivientes All Stars and La isla de las tentaciones are on air, so the launch could come later than the announcement suggests. No housemates or presenter have been confirmed. La Razón notes that the open question is who will succeed Naomi Asensi as winner.
