The transfer
Sean Combs, 56, was moved on Friday, 16 October 2026, from the federal prison at Fort Dix in New Jersey to FCI Allenwood Low, a low-security facility in Allenwood, Pennsylvania. The Federal Bureau of Prisons confirmed the move, after a person familiar with the matter first told the Associated Press about it. The agency gave no reasons for the transfer and no further details. Combs had been held in low-security sections of both prisons, and he had been at Fort Dix since his sentencing. A spokesman explained the agency's position on such moves.
For privacy, safety and security reasons, we do not discuss the conditions of confinement for any individual in our custody, including reasons for transfer.
His spokesperson, Juda Engelmayer, said the team could not speak to the circumstances of the move but hoped the time ahead would go well.
Sean remains focused on moving forward, and we hope that his time at the new facility will be productive and without unnecessary disruption.
Privileges reported at Fort Dix
In late September 2026, NBC News reported that Combs had enjoyed a range of privileges at Fort Dix. According to four former cellmates cited by the network, other inmates cooked for him, cleaned his cell and shower, did his laundry and gave him massages. NBC also reported that he had a smuggled mobile phone with internet access and cognac, which he offered to other inmates and guards on weekends. Other inmates reportedly kept his phone and the fan mail sent to him, and thousands of dollars were reportedly spent each month to maintain this arrangement.

- Release date after 41 days of good-conduct credit are docked
After the report, Combs was disciplined for disruptive behaviour and was separated from the other inmates. He was also placed in an isolation unit, and prison officials reportedly raided the facility twice and confiscated phones. The 41 days of good-conduct credit he lost pushed back his release date. Trial testimony in his 2025 case had already included accounts of violence and of sex parties that Combs called 'freak-offs'.
Injury reports and the response
Later reports said Combs had been injured in a fight with another inmate and taken to hospital for treatment. TMZ described the altercation, and Page Six reported that he hit his head on the upper part of a bunk bed. One version placed the altercation on a Friday night, and the other inmate was reportedly angry about the NBC report. The Federal Bureau of Prisons rejected the TMZ account as false, and the injury was described as not life-threatening. Combs was returned to Fort Dix the same day, and the exact circumstances of his injury remain unclear.
Sentence and release date
Combs was convicted in 2025 on two counts of transportation for prostitution and is serving 50 months, or four years and two months. According to a person familiar with the matter, the 41 days of lost good-conduct credit moved his release date to 2 March 2028. Earlier reports had put the estimated release in January 2028. The Bureau of Prisons has not disclosed the reasons for the transfer, so the link between the NBC investigation and the move has not been confirmed by the agency.
